The new infrastructure project will be built on the site of the former Skelton Grange Electricity Works, which were decommissioned in 1983 and 1994 respectively.
The new plant will have two incineration lines, which will be equipped with HZI’s own EfW technology. Once completed, the plant will process up to 410,000 tonnes of residual waste and use it to generate 49MW (gross) of renewable base load electricity per annum. This is enough energy to power more than 100,000 U.K. homes. The scope of works for the Careys team includes:
Coordination around other key contractors on site will need to be carefully managed and mitigated with coordination meetings and programme management with the client. Working for Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI), the project based southeast of Leeds in Stourton started in August 2022 and ran for 55 weeks. There were on average between 40 and 70 operatives on site, with this peaking to approximately 140 during the slipform operations. Full commissioning of the plant is planned for 2025.
