Diversity and Inclusion

To be a truly great company we must be one that is inclusive and diverse.

Our purpose

The purpose of the Diversity and Inclusion Council is to drive change to create an inclusive environment where everyone can come to work and be their authentic self, have equal opportunities to learn and progress and have their perspective represented in decision making across all levels of the company.

D&I Council purpose areas

There are four key focus areas that support the purpose of the D&I Council:

Awareness: Everyone is aware of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, to our vision of being the most trusted and socially responsible construction company that people are proud to work with and how the two complement one another.

Community: Everyone feels that they are an authentic and valued member of the team with strong relationships characterised by trust, care, and having each other’s backs.

Progression: Everyone feels that the organisation is invested in their professional success –partnering with them to discover, grow, and translate their passion and expertise.

Influence: Everyone feels that there are appropriate channels to speak up, for their perspective to be heard and represented and that leadership is sufficiently representative.

"Building a diverse community that truly feels inclusive takes time. The journey of our D&I council has been consistent and intentional, ensuring colleagues are part of the process as we celebrate individuality and continue to challenge industry boundaries.

Our Great Place to Work ethos drives cultural change across all locations, making us an attractive destination for those seeking a compelling and diverse career.

We actively remove gender bias from our hiring communications and leverage behavioural algorithms to ensure fair, objective recruitment. Our targeted action on closing the gender pay gap demonstrates our commitment, and we add our collective voice to the industry to promote greater inclusion and awareness of the varied career opportunities the construction sector offers people of all ages.

We foster a culture where everyone feels valued, inspired, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Our values are central to this commitment. Our people are at the heart of our success, and we remain dedicated to cultivating a workplace where dignity is respected, opportunities are equal, and every individual can thrive.

Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace brings a wide breadth of knowledge, skills and experiences to the Company. This helps ensure we have a more creative and innovate environment. It helps us have a broader, more diverse and larger talent pool to recruit from."

We all come from different walks of life and each person has a specific trait that they bring to the table. D&I in the working environment is one of the initial steps to creating a more socially responsible and unbiased society.

Talking about diversity is hard. We’re on a mission to make it easier. Our uncertainty of the right words to use to talk about diversity and inclusion can be paralysing. We found that many of us worry we’ll handle it wrong, say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing – and as a result, most of us simply don’t talk about race, religion, disability or sexual orientation at work.

We believe the following:

  • Building an awareness of D&I and internal opportunity for progression will support us in building a more diverse workplace that will enable us to build a great place to work one we love working at and people are excited to join through helping prospective and current employees bring their authentic selves to work.
  • Building internal communities that influence our D&I strategy will enable us to be more inclusive. In being more inclusive we will be able to elevate our standards so that from our first point of contact with our partners through to project completion and beyond, we are known throughout our industry for delivering operational excellence.
  • Being both diverse and inclusive will enable us to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with others who appreciate our values.
