Careys was awarded an enabling package of works at the Kelvin Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in West Bromwich, West Midlands, by principal contractor Acconia, on behalf of the client, Enfinium.
When operational, Kelvin will divert 395,000 tonnes of non-recyclable household and business waste from landfill or export overseas. Instead, it will use residual waste to generate 44MW (gross) of renewable baseload energy per annum, equivalent to the needs of more than 95,000 UK homes.
Located on a site owned by Giffords Property, the facility is strategically located to treat non-recyclable waste from a catchment area which has a projected capacity shortfall of over 2M tonnes per annum.
