We’re pleased to share that Careys has secured a contract to transform the iconic Oxford Street district in central London, working alongside J Murphy & Sons Ltd in a joint venture (Murphy-Carey JV).
The five-year, £235m contract is part of Westminster City Council’s plans to improve and future-proof the Oxford Street district to deliver its vision through 36 distinct projects in the surrounding area.
These works intend to enhance the neighbourhood, cater for the expected increase in visitors when the Elizabeth Line opens, reduce congestion, provide better cycling routes, improve air quality and create green public spaces, thereby helping create amazing environments for the public and strengthening Oxford Street’s world-renowned status as a great place to live, shop, work and visit.
The first package of works will commence Q2 2020 in Ramillies Place and include:
- Introduction of flush surfaces
- Installation of additional cycle parking
- Consolidation and timed control of loading provision
- Introduction of a pedestrian and cycle zone
- Improvement of lighting
- Planting of additional trees
- Additional and improved seating
- Display of artwork on building facades and banners
