We are proud to share that our Black Hat development programme has been named as a finalist for the 'Leadership Development Initiative of the Year' category at the 2023 British Training Awards.
The Black Hat Development Programme is a structured framework of workshops and corresponding on-the-job activities that enable a standard level of capability in eight key operational areas:
Planning and organising - providing delegates with the knowledge and skills to be able to effectively plan work, to ensure projects at Careys finish on time, within budget, to specification and safely.
Managing others - developing delegates knowledge and skills to manage others more effectively.
Engineering and quality - build a product once, as specified and to the required standard of quality.
Commercial - improve awareness of practices that reduce losses and enhance profitability on projects to contribute to financially strong performance.
IT - provide basic IT upskilling in the key applications and digital tools used across Careys to streamline processes.
Communication - provide knowledge and skills to develop communication skills allowing Black Hats to be more effective when communicating with others.
Health, safety and wellbeing – providing the skills above and beyond SSSTS and SMSTS to empower Black Hats to make sound judgement calls with regards to Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
Sustainability and environment
- Improve understanding of the Sustainability strategy at Careys –the 3 C’s –and demonstrate the opportunities to influence and contribute positively to making Careys the most trusted and socially responsible construction company.
With a range of categories including ‘Training Initiative of the Year’, ‘Early Careers Initiative of the Year’ and ‘Leader of the Year’ the British Training Awards 2023 sets out to discover and celebrate the organisations and individuals that are truly passionate about L&Ds role in building a thriving workforce.
This year, just over 160 entries were received from organisations across the UK, and so competition to be named a Finalist proved to be very tough. Firms taking part range from start-up innovators to public sector heroes, tech superstars, global titans and everything in between.
We’ll find out if we’ve won at an awards ceremony in Central London on the 21st June 2023 so keep your fingers crossed for us!
